Hi. I am ANIAN CHRISTOPH Wimmer.

With an international career now spanning almost three decades in TV, radio, online and newspaper journalism, my long-held dream to strike out on my own terms with WIMMER.MEDIA became possible in the year 2015, when I was approached by a number of potential clients seeking my services in both English and German.

At that time, I was serving as editor-in-chief of the Münchner Kirchenzeitung – a newspaper that played an historic role in the Catholic resistance against the Nazis.

An Australian who grew up bilingually in his native Bavaria and in South Africa, I started in journalism with a cadetship at a Munich daily newspaper in 1992, followed by some crazy adventures in commercial TV in 1990s Europe, before spending well over a decade working for Australia’s SBS, first as broadcaster-journalist and then in several senior executive roles in both Melbourne and Sydney.

Intrigued by the relationship between language and reality – not to mention journalism’s relationship with truth, I completed degrees in Philosophy and Chinese Studies at the University of Melbourne, followed up by postgraduate work exploring philosophical hermeneutics and the epistemology of journalism at Monash University, where I simultaneously developed and implemented editorial guidelines for journalistic content across 68 language programs at SBS: A job for which my position of Manager, Quality and Standards had been created, and which I moulded into a strategic role whilst also serving as Acting Director of Audio and Language Content for the public broadcaster.

A former Honorary Research Fellow in Communications at the University of Melbourne, I have taught newsroom journalism to undergraduate students at Monash, sat on the jury of the Catholic Media Award of the German Bishops’ Conference, and spent five years on the board of Caritas in the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising.

My work as author and broadcaster has appeared in Crux, Catholic Herald, die Tagespost, on SBS Radio, heute.de, Pro Sieben TV, Münchner Merkur, Antenne Bayern and many, many more. My expertise as commentator has been drawn on by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Aid to the Church in Need, EWTN News Nightly, Domradio, katholisch.de and the Catholic News Service as well as several others. As founding editor-in-chief, I launched CNA Deutsch, a news agency of EWTN News, in October 2015.

Whilst training to be a divemaster at the Melbourne Uni Underwater Club in the early 2000’s, I met a striking research scientist who turned out to be the love of my life. Within a few months, we were married – in a barefoot ceremony on the beach – and today we are blessed with four wonderful children.
